Summer care is probably that one care routine that we all know about (how important it is), but we all kinda ignore it. We don’t always apply sunscreen or we even don’t know how to protect ourselves during summer. I wrote a summer care related article about how to take care of your skin during summer not too long ago – you can read it here.
Related: How to Protect Your Skin During Summer
If you haven’t read the previous article, you must be aware that UV radiation is very dangerous during summer. Without proper care, it can lead to skin cancer or other skin related disorders. That’s why it’s important to have a summer care routine and to stick to it. Better safe than sorry, right?
It’s not difficult to take care of yourself during summer. It’s true that you have to pay more attention to certain things like drinking enough water, applying sunscreen every 2-3 hours and so on.
Here are some items that you must have in your hand bag for a proper summer care.
1. Sunscreen
I don’t think that I have to explain why. We are used to apply sunscreen once in the morning and that’s it! This is wrong! You have to apply sunscreen every 2 – 3 hours, according to the SPF and your skin tone. To know exactly the lifespan of your sunscreen protection, multiply the SPF with your skin tone. For example, I have a type 2 skin tone (to find out your skin type click here) and because of that I always use SPF 50 sunscreen; that means that the lifespan of my sunscreen is about 100 minutes (50×2). So a SPF 50 sunscreen will protect my skin for about 2 hours, after that I have to re-apply it.
2. Sunglasses
Sunglasses will protect not only your eyes, but will also prevent early wrinkles around them. Who wouldn’t want that?!
3. Thermal water
Thermal water is a great option to hydrate your skin fast. It is know for it multiple properties and having it in your handbag will keep your skin and face hydrated. It is also a great way to refresh yourself.
4. Wet wipes
Everything that has some moisture in it, is a great summer care product! Because it’s so hot outside, our body loses lots of liquids by sweating to keep an optimal body temperature. Keep a small wet wipes package in your hand bag to refresh your skin and get rid of that nasty sweaty smell. Sweat smell can be neutralized with plain water, without soap in most of the cases.
5. Refillable water bottle
As I said it’s super important to stay hydrated during summer. That means that you should drink lots of liquids such as water, natural juices, etc. You can also absorb liquids from fruits, veggies and soups.
Always keep a refillable water bottle in your hand bag. Fill it with water before you leave and when it’s empty you can easily refill it at a restaurant or at a fountain-water in the park. In his way, you will always have water with you, you won’t waste plastic bottles or money.
6. A scarf
I would say a hat, but because I can’t see how a hat would fit into a handbag, a scarf will do. It won’t protect you as well as a hat, but it’s better than nothing. It will not just keep you away from sunstroke, but it will protect your hair of getting affected by the sunlight.

These are great tips! I always keep wet wipes in my purse (mine are cucumber scented and smell SO fresh!) They’re great for spills or any small messes, and even if you have to go to a port-a-potty or rest room with no TP!

I love cucumber scented beauty products!
I need to start carrying wet wipes with me too. It is surprising how often I think about using one when it is super hot outside!!
Love this list! I just started keeping a small bottle of sunscreen in my bag this week and I think it’s such a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
So glad to hear this!
Going off of the water bottle, I like carrying a collapsable water bottle if I’m not bring a large handbag. They rill right up in your purse and you can fill them up when you get to your destination!

I had no idea there were collapsable water bottle out there.
I NEVER go anywhere without my sunglasses & 40oz water bottle!
Great to hear this! But don’t forget about sunscreen too, it’s SUPER important to protect your skin.
I need to invest in a nice Refillable water bottle. I always end up buying cheap plastic ones and they end up having a weird plasticy smell, so it just ends up being unused.
Ugh, tell me about that nasty smell!
I really love my Give Me Tap bottle – their cause is also very nice. Check them at http://www.givemetap.co.uk, maybe you’ll fall in love with their cause as I did!
I love the scarf idea! Living in florida I always have sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat handy. I usually use a sarong to wrap my arms if I am at the beach for a long time, but a scarf is a great idea too!
So glad, that you like it, Rachel!
I would have never thought about a scarf, thanks! I tend to keep a bigger diaper bag in the car and just switch out the necessary things per season.
Glad I could help you learn something new today, Terryn! ☺️
